The PRT process

From Inspection to Reassembly

Every job is evaluated according to its condition and requirements. Components are inspected and measured before the appropriate reconditioning and machining processes are selected.

    Receive

    The engine or component is received, identified and its rebuild requirement is recorded.

    Disassemble

    The unit is stripped down so every part can be inspected on its own merits.

    Clean

    Components are cleaned so surfaces, passages and damage can be assessed honestly.

    Inspect

    Crack detection and visual inspection decide what is reusable and what is not.

    Measure

    Bores, journals, decks and housings are measured against the specification.

    Machine

    Only the metal that must be removed is removed — to bring each surface back into spec.

    Reassemble

    Clean, measured components are assembled in the correct sequence with correct clearances.

    Inspect & Test

    The finished unit is checked and verified before it is signed off.

What is engine reconditioning?

Engine reconditioning returns a worn engine or its major components to serviceable condition by machining and rebuilding them to specification — rather than replacing the whole engine. It covers stripping, cleaning, inspection, measurement, machining of critical surfaces and reassembly.

What is the difference between a normal repair and a recondition?

A repair typically fixes a single fault. A recondition restores the component or engine as a system: surfaces are measured and machined back into specification, clearances are set correctly, and the unit is rebuilt in a controlled sequence.

Which engines and components can be reconditioned?

Why are components measured rather than just visually inspected?

What does a quote need to be accurate?

The more PRT can see and measure, the more accurate the quote: the engine or component itself, its condition, what the rebuild needs to achieve, and any parts the customer intends to supply. A quote from a specification of the job is always more reliable than one given sight-unseen.

Customer-supplied parts can be used where they are inspected, measured and confirmed suitable before assembly. Anything unsuitable is flagged before it goes into the build.
